Power Over MeI jolt upright, hitting my head sharply on the low ceiling, a scream about to form in my throat. I stop it just in time, as I have taught myself to do. No one will hear my cries anyway. I wish I had stayed in my dreams, even if they are nightmares, rather than to wake up and be here. I am cold, dirty and hungry. I pull the small blanket closer around my knees, trying to conserve what little heat I have left. I glance around, but there is no one else here. Who did I expect? I try to fight off the feeling of intense loneliness, but to no avail. I try to stand, grasping the wall with my long fingers, pale against the gloom. My legs are wea Power Over Me
